Baked Sweet and Sour Chicken

A Baked Sweet and Sour Chicken recipe that shows you how to make the Chinese takeout favourite Sweet and Sour Chicken in the oven so the chicken is CRISPY but not dried out inside. Coated generously in a sticky sauce with a perfect sweet-sour balance!


- 4 chicken breasts

- 1/2 cup flour

- 1/2 tsp salt

- 1/4 tsp black pepper

- 1/2 tsp garlic powder

- 1/2 tsp dried oregano

- 1/2 tsp paprika

- 1/4 cup olive oil

- 1/2 cup sweet and sour sauce


1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).


2. In a small bowl, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, oregano, and paprika.


3. Place the chicken breasts on a cutting board and sprinkle the flour mixture over both sides of the chicken, pressing it into the meat with your hands.


4. In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.


5. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken breasts to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown.


6. Once the chicken is browned, remove the skillet from the heat and pour the sweet and sour sauce over the chicken, making sure to coat each piece evenly.


7. Place the skillet in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked (reaching an internal temperature of 165 degrees F).


8. Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.


9. Serve the baked sweet and sour chicken with your choice of side dish, such as rice or vegetables.
