Best-ever Aussie sausage rolls

Jazz up these Australian beef and pork sausage rolls with creamy kewpie mayo and barbecue dipping sauce.


- 1 pound ground beef

- 1/2 pound ground pork

- 2 tablespoons olive oil

- 1 teaspoon salt

- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

- 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed

- 1 egg, beaten

- Ketchup or barbecue sauce (for serving)


1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.


2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well with your hands until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.


3. On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet into a large rectangle.


4. Spread the meat mixture evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides.


5. Starting at one end, tightly roll up the puff pastry and meat into a log shape. Pinch the edges to seal.


6. Cut the log into 2-inch pieces and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each roll.


7. Brush the beaten egg over the tops of the sausage rolls for a shiny finish.


8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the meat is fully cooked.
