Cabbage Wrapped Brats

For this recipe, you're going to love cooking your onions in the same pan as your brats for two reasons—one, less dirty dishes, and two, it creates the most melt-in-your-mouth-delicious caramelized onions EVER.


- 4 bratwurst sausages

- 1 head of cabbage

- Olive oil

- Salt

- Pepper

- Garlic powder

- Onion powder


1. Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.


2. Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and discard them. Cut the bottom off of the cabbage so that it can sit flat on a cutting board.


3. Slice the cabbage into 4 thick, even slices. These will be our "wraps" for the brats.


4. Brush both sides of the cabbage slices with olive oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to taste.


5. Place the cabbage slices on the preheated grill. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until the cabbage is slightly charred and tender.


6. While the cabbage is cooking, grill the bratwurst sausages for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are fully cooked and have nice grill marks.


7. Once the cabbage and brats are cooked, remove them from the grill and let them cool slightly.


8. Take one cabbage slice and place a bratwurst in the center. Roll the cabbage tightly around the brat, tucking the ends in as you go. Repeat with the remaining brats and cabbage slices.


9. If desired, you can place the wrapped brats back on the grill for a few minutes to crisp up the cabbage and heat up the brats again.


10. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious and unique Cabbage Wrapped Brats! Optional toppings could include mustard, ketchup, or your favorite condiments.
