quick tomato chutney burger sauce

Quick tomato chutney burger sauce

To accompany today’s cheeseburger recipe, here’s a tomato chutney designed especially to be a burger sauce. Having said that, I’ve been using it as an all-rounder condiment for everything from sandwiches to scrambled eggs, pork chops to chargrilled skirt steak! I especially like that it’s not as sweet as traditional tomato chutney.

Ingredients:

- 1 cup diced tomatoes

- 1 tbsp olive oil

- 1 tsp salt

- 1 tsp black pepper

- 1 tsp garlic powder

- 1 tsp onion powder

- 1 tsp dried basil

- 1 tsp dried oregano

- 1 tsp paprika

- 1 tsp red chili flakes, optional

Direction:

1. In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

2. Add the diced tomatoes to the pan and stir to coat them in the oil.

3. Season the tomatoes with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried basil, dried oregano, paprika, and red chili flakes (if desired).

4. Stir the seasonings into the tomatoes and let them cook for about 5 minutes, until they start to soften.

5. Use a spoon or spatula to lightly mash the tomatoes while they cook, creating a chunky sauce.

6. Once the tomatoes have softened and the sauce has thickened slightly, remove the pan from the heat and let the sauce cool.

7. Toast your burger buns in a pan or on a grill until they are lightly browned.

8. Assemble your burgers by placing a cooked burger patty on the bottom half of the bun, then spooning the tomato chutney sauce on top.

9. Add any additional toppings you like, such as sliced onions, lettuce, or cheese.

10. Place the top half of the bun on the burger and enjoy your quick and flavorful tomato chutney burger sauce!
